Why was this deleted? (The “facts are tricky things” diaries)

The CiF piece on August 18, by Nesrine Malik, entitled “Brutal Arab Security Forces Offer Hope: The security officers in the Arab World, and the glorified thugs they attract”, produced dozens of deletions in the comment thread, along with and a stern parental warning from the moderator not to go off topic:

And, then this quite on-topic comment by FergusQuadro:

It didn’t take long before that was deleted.

Then a reply to the deletion by Fergus.

This comment has since vanished completely.

Not that there’s really any question, outside of the CiF Moderation Team, regarding the accuracy of characterizing Gaza as Arab, but, just in case, The CIA World Fact Book‘s definitive Country pagedescribes Gaza as:

An Arab Palestinian state – one which is 99.3% Muslim.

But, as the Guardian’s new readers’ editor, Chris Elliott, acknowledge recently, “facts are tricky things.”
