Carmel fire may be nearing an end

Ynet, quoting fire officials and government spokespeople, is reporting that the deadly fire in the Mount Carmel region will likely be under control soon.

Officials said that as of 2:30 pm there were no major wildfire sources in the north, but only small ones that are being attended to by firefighters.

A giant American firefighting aircraft, The Evergreen Supertanker, joined the battle Sunday morning.  The deployment of The Evergreen, the largest aerial firefighting plane in the world, was considered decisive due to its ability to unload massive quantities of water and flame retardant chemicals, and its ability to operate at night. (It can drop 80,000 liters of water in a single run, which is 16 times more than the capacity of the aircraft now at the scene.)
