Off the BBC radar: a view of the Israeli army ignored by the media

BBC audiences read, watch and hear a lot about the Israeli army, with both filmed and written reports often being accompanied by images which usually repeat the same theme of nameless, frequently faceless, uniformed soldiers armed with – and often aiming – guns. A few examples of photographs used on the BBC News website in recent weeks appear below.

There are of course many other sides to the Israeli army which is, first and foremost, the army of the diverse and multi-cultural Israeli people. The film below depicts one view of the IDF which is seldom outside of Israel and shows images which the BBC lens does not capture for its audiences.
