UK Media Watch prompts apology & correction to claim Nice is 1st terror attack on kids

Yesterday, we posted about a Telegraph op-ed by Bryony Gordon (Now they have come for families, July 16) on the Nice terror attack which claimed that the truck-ramming assault that killed at least 84 people (including 10 children) represented the first time in the West that jihadists targeted children.

As we noted, however, Nice did not in fact represent the first terror attack on kids ‘in the West’

In 2012, three Jewish children (ages 3, 6 and 8) and one adult were brutally murdered by Mohammed Merah in a jihadist attack on a Jewish school in Toulouse, France.

Following our post, we tweeted Ms. Gordon, asking for a comment.

Quite admirably, she responded by acknowledging the error and apologizing in two tweets.

We also contacted Telegraph editors asking for a correction.

They responded by acknowledging the error and revising the passage in question.  The sentence “But in the western world, it is a monstrous first” has been removed from the op-ed.

We commend both Ms. Gordon and the Telegraph for the apology and correction.
