On the morning of April 22nd a terror attack took place at a checkpoint near Ma’ale Adumim.
“A Border Police officer was moderately injured in a combined car-ramming and stabbing attack at a West Bank checkpoint east of Jerusalem on Wednesday morning, police said.
According to police, the Palestinian assailant rammed his van into the border guard at the “Kiyosk” checkpoint near the Ma’ale Adumim settlement, then got out of the vehicle and attacked the officer with a pair of scissors before other troops at the scene shot him dead.
A pipe bomb was also found at the scene, which police said the assailant apparently planned to throw at the troops at the checkpoint. The area was closed off until sappers could remove the explosive device.
Medics said the border guard, who was in his twenties, sustained moderate wounds in the attack. He was taken to Jerusalem’s Shaare Zedek Medical Center for treatment.”
Although the BBC Jerusalem bureau’s Tom Bateman was aware of the incident having taken place, no BBC coverage has appeared to date.
On the same day the Israel Security Agency announced the arrests of members of a Hamas cell.
“The Shin Bet, in cooperation with the IDF and the Israel Police, arrested three Hamas operatives who were planning to commit several terror attacks against security forces and Israelis in Jerusalem and Ramallah area.
27-year-old Ahmed Sjadiyeh, 26-year-old Mohammad Hamed and 24-year-old Omer Eid met during their studies at the Bir Zeyt University, and were a part of Hamas’ central student’s union in the West Bank. […]
Their plans included bombing the Beitar Jerusalem soccer stadium in Jerusalem as well as several other terror attacks against Israeli security forces in the West Bank.”
The Times of Israel notes that:
“The Shin Bet said the funding for the trio’s activities came from an official from Kutla Islamiya, Rahman Hamdan, who lives in Ramallah. The security service said he also put the cell in direct contact with the Hamas terror group.”
The BBC did not find that story newsworthy either.
