Israel’s Xsight to Deploy Runway Protection System at Qatar’s Hamad Airport

Israeli Xsight Systems, a global provider of advanced runway safety solutions, announced last week that it will deliver an intelligent Runway Debris Monitoring System to Qatar’s Hamad International Airport (HIA) as part of the airport’s plan to upgrade its safety measures and acquire the latest and most advanced runway technologies.

The RunWize system will be deployed on the airport’s two parallel runways, including a 4,850 meter runway that is one of the longest in the world. The installation is to be carried out by local company Bayanat Engineering Qatar (BEQ), a leading airport systems integrator in the Gulf and North Africa.

Raytheon and Rafael to build Iron Dome in US

WASHINGTON — American firm Raytheon Technologies and Israeli-based Rafael Advanced Defense Systems have formed a joint venture to build the Iron Dome missile defense system in the United States, the companies announced Aug. 3.

Under the name Raytheon Rafael Area Protection Systems, the partnership is being set up to build a first-ever Iron Dome “all-up-round” facility stateside. The facility will build Iron Dome systems, the Tamir interceptor and launcher, and the SkyHunter missile (the U.S. version of Tamir), according to a Rafael-issued statement.

Tamir and SkyHunter are capable of intercepting cruise missiles, unmanned aircraft, rockets, artillery, mortars and other threats.

The partnership expects to finalize a site location before the end of the year, the statement said.

Intel Israel’s Export Nearly Doubles Over Past Year, Reaching $6.6 Billion

Intel Israel published on Wednesday its Corporate Responsibility Report for 2019-2020, revealing that the company’s export reached $6.6 billion in 2019, an increase of $2.7 billion, or more than 40%, compared to the previous year. According to the report, Intel’s export makes up 1.6% of Israel’s GDP and 12.5% of the tech industry’s overall export.

Intel Israel’s workforce grew by almost 1,000 employees to 13,750, making it the largest private employer in the country.

World’s largest cargo plane lands in Israel to load Iron Dome batteries

The world’s largest cargo plane landed in Ben Gurion Airport, carrying U.S. military

trucks that were fitted with Iron Dome missile defense system batteries purchased by the U.S. Army before leaving Israel, the Defense Ministry announced on Monday.

In August 2019, The ministry had signed a $373 million deal with the U.S. Defense Department to sell two off-the-shelf Iron Dome batteries to the American Army from Rafael which include 12 launchers, two sensors, two battlement management centers, and 240 interceptors.

Israeli and Emirati firms sign ‘historic agreement’ to jointly combat COVID-19

Companies from Israel and the United Arab Emirates on Thursday signed an agreement to join forces to research and development technology in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic.

Group 42, an Abu Dhabi-based technology company, signed a memorandum of understanding with Israel’s Rafael Advanced Defense Systems and Israel Aerospace Industries, according to the Emirati state news agency WAM.

Israel and the UAE do not have official diplomatic ties, but have been gradually warming relations.

The figure may be more as some companies prefer to remain in stealth and not to publicize the investments they have received.

Israeli firm says micro-pancreas to ‘cure’ diabetes ready for UK trials

An Israeli company claiming to have created a tiny micro-pancreas that can “cure” diabetes for millions of people has said it will submit a request next month for human clinical trials in the UK.

Betalin Therapeutics said its “bio-artificial” pancreas aims to free patients of the need for insulin injections and blood sugar monitoring. It is designed for people with type 1 diabetes, and those with type 2 diabetes who require insulin.

The Jerusalem-based firm told the Guardian it would provide a plan for clinical trials to Britain’s regulatory agency in August. Betalin aims to begin human testing early next year, with the hope of delivering to the market by 2024.

Israeli researchers have developed a highly accurate and efficient test for coronavirus antibodies that could greatly contribute to ongoing efforts to assess the extent of the virus spread among the population, Channel 13 news reported Wednesday.

Antibody tests are seen as a key component in finding out who already had the disease in order to better understand its spread and shape policy ahead of a possible second outbreak.

American film academy taps 13 Israelis to join Oscars vote

The American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) has invited thirteen Israelis to vote and influence the results of the 93rd Academy Awards ceremony.

The Israeli representatives are among a group of 819 prominent figures from the world of motion picture, hailing from 68 different countries. The Academy has been striving in recent years to diversify its roster, 49% of which is non-American this year, and make the organization more global.
