We recently posted about a grossly misleading Guardian article, written by Bethan McKernan, which included the claim that “100 litres a day” is the “minimum” per capita, per day water requirement “set by the World Health Organization” (WHO). If true, that would mean that Palestinian water consumption in the West Bank (at 85.6 liters per capita per day) is significantly less than the minimum requirement.
We complained to Guardian editors, noting that WHO in fact states that the minimum is between 50-100 litres per capita per day – meaning that Palestinian water consumption is within the standard.
Editors upheld our complaint, amended the relevant sentence accordingly and added the following addendum.
This post was amended on May 28th to clarify the original Guardian claim.
