CAMERA UK prompts correction to BBC ‘genocide’ disinformation

As previously documented, the BBC’s response to a CAMERA UK complaint concerning the September 18th edition of BBC Two television’s ‘Newsnight’ programme – which included a contributor’s promotion of a false claim concerning the ICJ – acknowledged “this unfortunate error” but failed to take any steps to correct the issue.

BBC COMPLAINTS ACKNOWLEDGES ‘UNFORTUNATE ERROR’ BUT FAILS TO CORRECT

CAMERA UK therefore submitted a Stage 1b complaint requesting that a correction be issued in order to relieve audiences of the disinformation promoted by a politically motivated contributor.

On October 31st we were informed by BBC Complaints that a correction had been published on the BBC’s ‘Corrections and Clarifications’ webpage.

The number of viewers of that edition of ‘Newsnight’ who will actively seek out that correction issued 43 days later on a different BBC platform can safely be assumed to be minimal, meaning that questions must once again be asked about the corporation’s commitment to ensuring that its audiences receive corrected information. So long as the BBC Complaints department continues to function at its current level, it will remain clear to the BBC’s funding public that accuracy and transparency are not its main priorities.
