The editorialised portrayal of a BBC contributor

BBC News website coverage of the 2024 US election has included reports by the BBC Jerusalem bureau’s Lucy Williamson. One of those reports – titled ‘How Israelis and Palestinians see the US election’ – appeared on October 31st and includes the following editorialised portrayal of one of its contributors: [emphasis added]

“But many Palestinians see little hope in either candidate.

“The overall estimation is that the Democrats are bad, but if Trump is elected it’ll be even worse,” said Mustafa Barghouti, a respected Palestinian analyst and politician in the occupied West Bank.

“The main difference is that Kamala Harris will be more sensitive to the shift in American public opinion, and that means more in favour of a ceasefire.” […]

“The general feeling is that the US has failed drastically in protecting international law, has failed the Palestinians more than once [and] took the side of total bias to Israel,” said Mustafa Barghouti.

“The issue of a Palestinian state is nothing but a slogan.”

Williamson did not bother to inform her readers by whom the frequent contributor to BBC content Mustafa Barghouti is “respected”, or for what.

Neither of course did she tell BBC audiences about Barghouti’s participation in a Hamas rally in October 2022.

Barghouti’s description of Hamas’ October 7th 2023 massacre as “a glorious day for the Palestinian resistance and people”, his participation in a procession in Ramallah which included calls to “shoot a Jew”, his promotion of disinformation and his praise for Iran’s missile attacks on Israel are obviously irrelevant as far as Williamson is concerned.

Yet again, one can only wonder why the BBC repeatedly platforms Mustafa Barghouti while not only failing to inform audiences of his “particular viewpoints” as required by its own editorial guidelines, but actively obfuscating that relevant information by means of trite epithets such as “respected”.

The BBC is finished and they know it, the clock is ticking, not even Herr Starmer will save this group of bigots and antisemites. Unbiased? don’t make me laugh, how they were granted the last Royal Charter is beyond comprehension. I am surprised nobody is prepared to take them to court over their deception and pro Islamic stance. Just from information on this website, there are at least ten possible prosecutions of these ‘experts’ and so called reporters, if you do not report the facts then you cannot call yourself a reporter. #defundthebbc
