In the early hours of November 27th (Israel time) the BBC News website published an uncredited ‘explainer’ on the topic of the ceasefire which was due to come into effect in northern Israel and Lebanon a few hours later.
As a reader pointed out to us a few hours after its appearance, the original version of that report – headlined “What we know about Israel-Hezbollah ceasefire deal” – told BBC audiences that:
“Under the terms of the ceasefire, over 60 days Hezbollah will remove its fighters and weapons from the area between the Blue Line – the unofficial border between Lebanon and Israel – and the Litani river, about 30km (20 miles) to the north.
Hezbollah fighters will be replaced by Lebanese army forces in that area, who will ensure that infrastructure or weaponry is removed and that it cannot be rebuilt, according to a senior US official.
Over the same 60 days, Israel will gradually withdraw its remaining forces and civilians, Biden said, adding that it would enable civilians on both sides of the border to return to their homes.” [emphasis added]
Apparently the anonymous writer of that report did not bother to watch the footage of the US President’s speech because had he or she done so, it would have been clear that Biden did not say that there were Israeli civilians in Lebanon – see at 02:40 here – but rather was referring to the displaced civilians in Israel and Lebanon.
“And over the next 60 days, Israel will gradually withdraw its remaining forces and civilians — civilians on both sides – will soon be able to safely return to their communities…”
Along with our reader (who has yet to receive a response), CAMERA UK submitted a complaint to the BBC at 09:27 on the morning of November 27th regarding that suggestion that Israel had allowed or enabled the entry of civilians into Lebanon, pointing out that:
“There are no Israeli “remaining […] civilians” in Lebanon. Any Israeli in Lebanon is a member of the armed forces. That grossly misleading claim should be removed from this report and a clarification issued to relieve those who have already read it of that disinformation.”
On the evening of December 4th we received the following response from the BBC:
“Thank you for getting in touch about our article What we know about Israel-Hezbollah ceasefire deal
Please accept our apologies for the error, which was amended when the article was updated.”
That particular amendment was made on the evening of November 27th, following two prior updates to the article.
In other words, anyone who read that article in the first nineteen or so hours after its initial appearance was told that there are Israeli civilians in Lebanon.
Nevertheless, the BBC News website has not appended a footnote stating that the first three versions of the report promoted that false claim. The continued absence of a dedicated corrections page on the BBC News website means that those who read the article before it was amended will most likely remain unaware of the fact that it promoted misinformation.
The IPC (aka BBC) are liars and cheats with their so-called “News Reports”, which are composed with the sole intention of demonising Israel. Never has there been a single item published in favour of – or praising – Israel in its brave task of saving the West from medieval Islam.
