Following communication from CAMERA UK, the Telegraph amended the legend of a map depicting Israeli communities across the green line. The article (“Trump gives us ‘big opportunity to annex West Bank’, says Israel’s settler leader“, May 1) was illustrated with a few graphs and maps, including this one:
As the map source the Telegraph cited (OCHA) made clear, the text explaining which dots indicate Israeli communities and which indicate Palestinian communities gets it backwards. The pink dots you can see on the West Bank map clearly show Palestinian communities, while the blue dots show Israeli settlements and outposts.
The outlet’s error serves to dramatically inflate the actual number of settlements and outposts.
Our complaint was upheld, and editors amended the map’s text to make it clear that the blue dots are Israeli settlements and outposts.
