Daily Express corrects egregious error about Gaza aid

We complained about a July 23 article in the Daily Express, written by their chief reporter Giles Sheldrick, which included the following sentence:

After life-saving aid was initially let in, all crossings into Gaza have been closed since March 2, effectively halting a trickle of food, medicine, and aid, which has now almost completely dried up.

This is, of course, completely untrue. As every major outlet, including the Daily Express, has reported, aid delivery to Gaza resumed on May 19, with over 87 million meals being delivered by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation since that time.

Our complaint was promptly upheld by editors, with the relevant sentence deleted, and these new sentences added:

The US-Israeli backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation said 87 million meals had been distributed since aid was allowed to enter the enclave on May 19.

It added: “Hamas is holding up the ceasefire over who controls food aid. They’re demanding we be removed and the UN put back in charge. Why? Because control of aid means control of Gaza.”

This editor’s note about the correction was also added:
