“Netanyahu applauds UN adoption of Trump’s Gaza plan and Hamas rejects it“, the Associated Press (AP) headline clearly stated, in a Nov. 18 article about the UN Security Council’s (UNSC) adoption of resolution 2803, endorsing the Trump administration’s blueprint to secure and govern Gaza.

The AP cited an English-langauge X post from Netanyahu’s official account applauding the UN resolution’s support for the 20-point peace plan.
The plan authorises an international stabilisation force to provide security in Gaza, approves a transitional authority called the Board of Peace and the demilitarisation of Hamas, and envisions a possible future path for Palestinian statehood.
The AP also noted Hamas’s rejection of the UNSC resolution. The terror group complained that assigning the international force with “disarming the resistance, strips it of its neutrality, and turns it into a party to the conflict in favor of the occupation [Israel],” while claiming that “resisting occupation by all means is a legitimate right.”
However, several British media outlets seemed to go out of their way to avoid mentioning Jerusalem’s support for the UN resolution backing the US peace plan.
The Financial Times (FT) published a story (attributed to Mehul Srivastava in London, Heba Saleh in Cairo and James Shotter in Jerusalem) titled “UN Security Council approves US-backed proposal for Gaza“, Nov. 18, which noted Hamas’s rejection, while omitting Israel’s acceptance.
Sky News did the same, in an article titled “UN Security Council backs Trump peace plan for Gaza“, Nov. 18th, which noted Hamas’s rejection of the resolution, while only mentioning Israeli views in the context of an internal debate within the government over language concerning the possible creation of a Palestinian state. A separate analysis at Sky also published today, by their Middle East correspondent Adam Parsons, was even more misleading with language suggesting that both Hamas and Israel objected to the resolution.
Finally, the Guardian also noted Hamas’s rejection of the UN resolution, while omitting Jerusalem’s support, in an article by Patrick Wintour and Jason Burke, “UN security council votes to endorse Donald Trump’s Gaza plan“, Nov. 18.
We’ll be complaining to these outlets, asking them to add language noting Israel’s endorsement of the UNSC resolution.
