Reminder: public consultation on BBC charter renewal

As previously noted here, in December 2025 the UK government Department for Culture, Media and Sport published a Green Paper as part of its review of the current BBC Royal Charter.

Members of the public were invited to participate in a public consultation, with the deadline expiring next week.

“We are seeking the views of the general public, those working in the creative industries, researchers and industry organisations across a number of issues and options for change. The responses and evidence submitted to this consultation will help inform the government’s decisions on making changes to the BBC’s Charter and Framework Agreement.

The consultation will be open for 12 weeks from 16 December 2025 to 10 March 2026.”

Those wishing to participate can find the online form here.

I rely on the BBC-TV & radio for information/news & entertainment daily. As someone in their mid-80’s I find the vast choice of ways of communicating, learning etc rather overwhelming so more traditional ways of accessing what I need are still essential.
I believe the BBC should still be as independent as possible without political pressures from the government of the day. Any necessary oversight of the BBC may well be necessary but again should be independent of political pressures & inside BBC influence.
This may be a big ask as fairly recent events have shown.
I regard paying for my licence as a worthwhile investment as I regard the institution as “speaking truth to power” through out the world Would hope World service can be reinstated.
