BBC Trending requests Coronavirus fake news

Readers may have noticed that the BBC complaints procedure is currently once again working at less than optimal levels.

It is however worth taking note of a recent request from BBC Trending:

BBC News has claimed that:

“Here at the BBC, we are working very hard to make sure that everything we broadcast and publish is accurate and up to date.”

Nevertheless, we have already seen that inaccurate claims have been promoted in BBC content relating to the Coronavirus pandemic.

Whether or not BBC Trending – which purports to instruct audiences on “how you can stop bad information from going viral” – will investigate false information put out by the BBC itself remains to be seen. BBC Watch has so far alerted them to one item of BBC content and will be interested to see the outcome.
