Yom HaZikaron

יום הזיכרון לחללי מערכות ישראל ולנפגעי פעולות האיבה

This evening the Day of Remembrance for the Fallen Soldiers of Israel and Victims of Terrorism begins.

Close to the Juhader junction on Route 98 in the Golan Heights lies a memorial to soldiers from the 53rd ‘Sufa’ battalion of the 188thBarak’ brigade of the armoured corps.

At the beginning of the 1973 Yom Kippur War, members of the 188th brigade fought off the Syrian attack on the southern Golan Heights in the area near the memorial’s location for several consecutive days, with heavy losses.

Seventy-eight soldiers from the 53rd battalion are commemorated at the site.

May their memories be blessed.
