BBC NEWS COVERAGE OF TERRORISM IN ISRAEL – FEBRUARY 2024

The Israel Security Agency’s report on terror attacks during February 2024 shows that throughout the month a total of 475 incidents took place in Judea & Samaria, Jerusalem and within the ‘green line’. The agency recorded 79 attacks with petrol bombs, 37 attacks using pipe bombs, one attack using an IED, 316 incidents of rock throwing,19 shooting attacks, 18 arson attacks, four stabbing attacks and one vehicular attack.

103 attacks were thwarted throughout the month in Judea & Samaria and Jerusalem and 300 terror related arrests were made.

In addition, 165 missiles were launched into Israeli territory from the Gaza Strip and 534 missiles were launched from Lebanon or Syria throughout February. (The ISA report does not include casualties from attacks related to Operation Swords of Iron.)

Five people were killed and 24 were injured in attacks in Judea & Samaria, Jerusalem and inside the ‘green line’ during February.

One civilian was wounded during a stabbing attack in Jerusalem’s Old City on February 11th.

Two people were murdered and three injured in a shooting attack at a bus stop at the Re’em Junction in southern Israel on February 16th. That attack did not receive any stand-alone coverage on the BBC News website at the time but got a 26-word mention at the end of a report published six days later. Notably, the terrorist is described as “a Palestinian man” despite the fact that he held Israeli residency.

One civilian was injured in an IED attack near Homesh on February 19th.

One civilian was killed and fifteen wounded in a shooting attack on Route One near Ma’ale Adumin on February 22nd which was reported on the BBC News website.

On February 29th two civilians – including a 16-year-old boy – were murdered in a shooting attack perpetrated by a member of the Palestinian Authority police force at a petrol station in Eli. That attack did not receive any stand-alone coverage on the BBC News website.

During the first two months of 2024, the BBC News website reported 0.4% of the terror attacks which took place and 56% of the resulting casualties.
