BBC News corrects report on Kerem Shalom attack

On May 5th the BBC News website published a report about a Hamas rocket attack on the Kerem Shalom crossing which had taken place in the early afternoon of the same day.

The report included news of the deaths of three soldiers, as later announced by the IDF on the same evening.

On May 6th the IDF announced the death of a fourth soldier in the same incident. However, on the morning of May 7th, the BBC’s headline still referred to “three soldiers killed”.

CAMERA UK submitted a complaint to the BBC on May 7th requesting that the report be amended to reflect the number of casualties resulting the Hamas attack accurately.

Later the same day, the report was amended and a footnote added:

On May 8th we received the following response from the BBC:

“Thank you for getting in touch about our article now headlined Israel-Gaza war: Four soldiers killed in Kerem Shalom rocket attack

Following your complaint we updated the article to clarify that the number of soldiers killed was four.

We also added an update note advising readers of this change.”
