In the section titled ‘Names‘, for example, we find the following guide to “preferred spelling of Middle Eastern cities/towns often in the news”:

“East Jerusalem (not Arab East Jerusalem)”

Nevertheless, the phrase “Arab East Jerusalem” is still used by BBC journalists – for example in this report from November 19th 2014:

“Before dawn on Wednesday, Israeli troops demolished the home of a Palestinian who killed a baby and a woman last month by ramming a car into a Jerusalem tram stop. The man, Abdel-Rahman Shaloudi, was from Silwan, an area of occupied Arab East Jerusalem.”

And in this article from October 30th 2014:

“Angry crowds gathered in Arab East Jerusalem near Hejazi’s home as news spread that he had been shot.”
