BBC Arabic corrects geographical error

On April 3rd the BBC Arabic website published a filmed report titled “Coronavirus: Haredi Jews’ neighborhoods are an ‘outpost’ of the pandemic in Israel”.

BBC audiences were told that:

“مدينة بني براك شرق تل أبيض باتت تعتبر بؤرة للفيروس المميت”

“The city of Bnei Brak, east of Tel Abyad, became an outpost of the deadly virus”

CAMERA Arabic contacted the BBC, pointing out that Tel Abyad is a war-torn town in northern Syria and Bnei Brak lies to the east of Tel Aviv.

BBC Arabic’s editors corrected the error on April 14th.

Beyond belief. Their output goes around the world – you’d think they might try a bit harder to get it right. Just not good enough.
