A development in a story ignored by the BBC for six years

In 2017 the IDF published information concerning Hizballah’s use of a self-proclaimed environmental organisation as a front for terrorist activity in south Lebanon in violation of UN SC resolution 1701.

In 2020 that organisation – ‘Green Without Borders’ – was described by the Washington Institute for Near East Policy as “a Hezbollah front, providing the militant group cover for operational activities prohibited under UN Security Council Resolutions 1559 and 1701—from conducting preoperational surveillance to firing rockets at Israel”.

On August 16th 2023 the US Treasury designated that organisation and its leader.

“The US Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control designated Green Without Borders (GWB) and its leader, Zuhair Subhi Nahla, for allegedly providing support and cover to Hezbollah in southern Lebanon along the “Blue Line” boundary between Lebanon and Israel “while operating under the guise of environmental activism.”

The Treasury Department said GWB outposts are manned by Hezbollah operatives, serving as cover for the terror group’s warehouses and munitions tunnels. Workers at the outposts have allegedly prevented UN peacekeepers in Lebanon from accessing areas that the United Nations is supposed to be able to reach. […]

GWB sites “have been used to conduct Hezbollah weapons training, to provide support for Hezbollah’s activities along the Blue Line in southern Lebanon and to impede the freedom of movement of the UN Security Council-mandated United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL),” the State Department said, adding that the sanctions are “part of our efforts to prevent and disrupt financial and other support for terrorist attacks in Lebanon, Israel, and around the world.”

Brian E. Nelson, the Treasury Department’s undersecretary for terrorism and financial intelligence, said the US rejects Hezbollah’s “cynical efforts to cloak its destabilizing terrorist activities with false environmentalism.””

As noted by the FDD:

“Hezbollah’s military presence anywhere in Lebanon, including along the border with Israel, is contrary to UN Security Council Resolution 1701, which calls for “the disarmament of all armed groups in Lebanon, so that … there will be no weapons or authority in Lebanon other than that of the Lebanese state.” The goal of the resolution, passed following the 2006 Israel-Hezbollah war, is to prevent a future conflict by removing the main cause of that war: the presence in Lebanon of Hezbollah forces.

The 27 military outposts that Hezbollah has built along the border over the last year, under the guise of GWB, gravely undermine the Resolution 1701 framework. That framework has, despite its flaws, helped Israel and Lebanon avert large-scale war since 2006.”

Over the past six years we have repeatedly noted the absence of any BBC coverage whatsoever of the activities of that Hizballah-linked organisation (see ‘related articles’ below), despite the fact that the corporation maintains offices in both Jerusalem and Beirut. The BBC News website’s most recent report about “tensions” on the border between Israel and Lebanon also failed to make any mention of ‘Green Without Borders’:

BBC NEWS FAILS TO PROVIDE FULL BACKGROUND TO HIZBALLAH PROVOCATIONS

It is therefore not in the least surprising to find that to date BBC audiences have seen no reporting whatsoever on the topic of last week’s US designation of that organisation and how its activities violate UNSC resolution 1701.

Observing the manner in which the BBC supports and encourages every move by Iran’s puppets, Hamas and Hezbollah, can lead to only one conclusion – that the BBC is being funded or bribed by Iran. Pass the sick-bag, Alice.
