BBC NEWS COVERAGE OF TERRORISM IN ISRAEL – OCTOBER 2023

The Israel Security Agency’s report on terror attacks during October 2023 does not include those launched from the Gaza Strip on and after October 7th and does not relate to combat situations, including Operation Swords of Iron.

The report shows that throughout the month a total of 567 incidents took place in Judea & Samaria and Jerusalem. The agency recorded 320 attacks with petrol bombs, 141 attacks using pipe bombs, 78 shooting attacks, nineteen arson attacks, three stabbing attacks and three vehicular attacks.

One person was killed and eighteen were injured in attacks in Judea & Samaria and Jerusalem during October.

One member of the security forces was killed and another wounded when an improvised explosive device was thrown at Border Police forces carrying out an arrest raid in Nur Shams camp near Tulkarem on October 19th.

On October 1st one person was injured in an IED attack near Burka. On October 5th one member of the security forces was injured in a shooting attack near Joseph’s Tomb and five members of the security forces were injured during an arrest operation in Tulkarem. Those two incidents were briefly  mentioned in a BBC News website report dated October 6th but the injury at Joseph’s Tomb was not reported. The same report also mentioned a shooting attack on civilians in Huwara on October 5th which fortunately did not result in injuries.

One member of the security forces was injured in an attack with a petrol bomb in east Jerusalem on October 9th and another was injured in a shooting attack near Arabbuna on the same day.

On October 12th two policemen were injured in a shooting attack on a police station near the Old City of Jerusalem which was claimed by the PFLP.

One member of the security forces was injured in an IED attack near Burka on October 24th. Two civilians were wounded in an assault near Rimonim on October 26th.

On October 30th a member of the security forces was injured during a counter-terrorism operation in Jenin and on the same day a police officer was seriously wounded in a stabbing attack in Jerusalem.

Throughout the first ten months of 2023 the BBC News website reported 1.7% of the terror attacks which actually took place (not including Operation Shield and Arrow or Operation Swords of Iron) and 89% of the resulting Israeli fatalities.
