BBC NEWS COVERAGE OF TERRORISM IN ISRAEL – NOVEMBER 2023

The Israel Security Agency’s report on terror attacks during November 2023 does not include those launched from the Gaza Strip on or after October 7th and does not relate to combat situations, including Operation Swords of Iron.

The report shows that throughout the month a total of 292 incidents took place in Judea & Samaria and Jerusalem. The agency recorded 138 attacks with petrol bombs, 118 attacks using pipe bombs, 25 shooting attacks, four arson attacks, four stabbing attacks, one vehicular attack and two incidents of rock throwing (note – the ISA only records rock throwing attacks which result in moderate or serious injuries).

Seven people were killed and eighteen were injured in attacks in Judea & Samaria and Jerusalem during November.

A motorist was murdered in a shooting attack near Bayt Lid on November 2nd. On the same day a member of the security forces was injured by an IED in the same area and on November 3rd a member of the security forces was injured by a petrol bomb in Issawiya.

On November 6th a Border Policewoman was killed and another officer was wounded in a stabbing attack near the Old City of Jerusalem.

Two civilians were wounded in a shooting attack near Itamar on November 8th.

One member of the security forces was killed and four wounded in a shooting attack at a checkpoint south of Jerusalem which was later claimed by Hamas. The sole half-sentence throwaway mention of that attack on the BBC News website came in a one-sided report about Palestinians living in a particular district in Hebron published three days later:

“…three Palestinian militants from Hebron attacked an Israeli checkpoint dividing the West Bank from Jerusalem, killing one soldier and wounding five.” [emphasis added]

One member of the security forces was wounded in a rock-throwing attack near Jilazoun on November 22nd and another was wounded the next day in a similar attack near Al Aroub.

Four civilians were killed and five others wounded in a shooting attack at a bus stop in Jerusalem on November 30th which was carried out by members of Hamas. That attack was reported on the BBC News website.

Also on November 30th, two members of the security forces were injured in a vehicular attack at the Beka’ot checkpoint in the Jordan Rift Valley.

A shooting attack at a junction near Hebron on November 17th which did not result in any injuries was described on the BBC News website as a ‘confrontation’ in which “militants” were killed without any mention being made of the fact that they shot at soldiers.

Throughout the first eleven months of 2023 the BBC News website reported 1.6% of the terror attacks which actually took place (not including Operation Shield and Arrow or Operation Swords of Iron) and 83.7% of the resulting Israeli fatalities.
