An hour ago, we tweeted and emailed Times of London to complain about the following passage in a Jan. 26th political round-up titled ‘Issues on the table at trade talks‘.

We heard back immediately from Times of London editors to inform us that they corrected the passage, which now reads:
This represents the fourth British media correction we’ve prompted on this very same issue within the last year.
- In August, UK Media Watch prompted a correction to a Guardian report which included a sentence suggesting to readers that Tel Aviv was Israel’s capital.
- In June, UK Media Watch prompted a correction to a Times of London article which twice used “Tel Aviv” as a synonym for Israel’s capital.
- In March, UK Media Watch prompted a correction at the Daily Mirror in an article which explicitly referred to Tel Aviv as the nation’s capital.
Despite the controversy surrounding the failure of most countries to recognize Jerusalem as the nation’s capital, in the media context it’s important to note that the Press Complaints Commission has ruled that it is wrong to state that Tel Aviv is Israel’s capital.
