BBC NEWS COVERAGE OF TERRORISM IN ISRAEL – APRIL 2022

The Israel Security Agency’s report on terror attacks (Hebrew) during April 2022 shows that throughout the month a total of 268 incidents took place: 217 in Judea & Samaria, 42 in Jerusalem and inside the ‘green line’ and nine in the Gaza Strip sector.

In Judea & Samaria, Jerusalem and inside the ‘green line’ the agency recorded 187 attacks with petrol bombs, 35 attacks using pipe bombs, seventeen shooting attacks, eleven arson attacks and two stabbing attacks. In the Gaza Strip sector two shooting attacks, two incidents of anti-aircraft fire and five rocket attacks were recorded.

Four people were murdered and eleven wounded in attacks that took place during April.

The April 7th attack in Tel Aviv in which three people were murdered and six wounded was reported on the BBC News website.

A shooting attack in Ariel on April 29th in which one person was killed did not receive any coverage.

A stabbing attack in Hebron on April 10th in which a member of the security forces was injured and a shooting attack at Joseph’s Tomb in which two civilians were wounded the following day were briefly mentioned in a BBC News website report published on April 11th.

“On Monday morning, two ultra-Orthodox Jewish men, who had reportedly not obtained permission, were shot and wounded while trying to get there. It is not clear who fired the shots. […]

Also on Sunday, two Palestinian women – one of whom was found to be unarmed; the other who stabbed an Israeli policeman – were shot dead in separate incidents in the West Bank.”

A stabbing attack in Ashkelon in which a policeman was wounded on April 12th and a stabbing attack in Haifa on April 15th in which a civilian was moderately injured did not receive any BBC coverage.

Of the five incidents of rocket launches from the Gaza Strip during April, just two were given a brief mention in an article published on the BBC News website several days later.

“This week raised fears of renewed violence, as for the first time in months militants in Gaza launched two rockets into southern Israel and then used anti-aircraft fire against Israeli war planes as they struck Hamas targets in response.”

In the first four months of 2022, the BBC News website reported 1.4% of the terror attacks which actually took place and 93% of the resulting fatalities.
